The Ps and Qs (and Rs) of Creating NonfictionA program for children's book authors Although nonfiction, by its very definition, is fact-based, considerable creativity is required to conceive, research, write, revise, and produce compelling works of nonfiction. Using examples from my own research and writing, I'll share my discoveries about questions I've explored while working to create award-winning books of nonfiction. Among them are: What principles should be followed during this creative process? What qualities set the standards for today's award-winning nonfiction? What techniques yield successful photo research? How does one find and mine the raw materials that are behind the best nonfiction writing? From Primary sources to Practical details to Quality and more, we'll consider the Ps and Qs (and at least one R) of how to create the best possible works of nonfiction. Length: minimum of 50 minutes for program, 10-15 minutes for questions. A longer, more in-depth program is available upon request. Technical requirements: LCD projector and projection screen |
